Idol Chat

New season, new Idol Chat! Season four, where are you at?

(I’ve been on a rhyming kick lately. o.O)

GREETINGS, EVERYONE! And happy 2017! Who else is excited to get this competition started?

Whether you are a contestant, judge, spectator, or something in between, this discussion is open to you! This is the place where you can unwind and hang out, make some new friends, and create fantastic new experiences. Chat about whatever you feel like--yourself, the competition, the news, exciting things going on in your life. It’s all open for discussion--as long as it stays friendly. Someone will respond.

I will kick us off with a quick get-to-know-you session as that’s generally the easiest way to start a discussion like this.

I am Ellie, and I am the creator and one of the judges for this fine competition. I have been writing for over fifteen years, starting out in the Harry Potter fan fiction arena and working my way from there. I am currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in environmental sciences and hope to one day study severe weather. In my spare time (what little there is of it), I enjoy traveling and attending concerts. I am a theme-park junkee and not ashamed of it. My favorite place in the whole world (currently) is Disneyland. I go there far too often for any normal adult. As for music, I lean most heavily on the rock genre, but I am open to all kinds of music. My favorite bands include Nothing More, Nightwish, Evanescence, 10 Years, and Lacuna Coil.

So, that's a little about me. Feel free to ask each other questions and help carry the conversation. I will be a frequent visitor here as will, I'm sure, the other judges.

Now that you know who I am, my question is: who are YOU? =D

Hey everyone, I'm WordSpark. I don't usually participate in challenges, I've only once in the past. So I guess this is my second time? I've been writing for about 3-4 years, and so far I love it. I just went through a really hard time in my writing, almost like a writer's block mega depression? XD IDK. But, I'm recovering from it, almost recovered actually. I'm really excited and can't wait to meet more people. I want to become a full time author, or get more in graphic art and illustration.

My name is Kiamesha. I've been writing since age 5. I started writing in journals. Then poetry. Then short stories and novels and the cycle continues. I had a profile but it got deleted so I've been starting from the ground up since then. I am 20. The older sister, but also the baby. I am a high school graduate. Hoping to start college soon. Loves reading, writing, yoga, my dogs, my family, and friends. I love chocolate and music. I am super excited to go on this journey and I wish everyone luck

Hi, I'm Elizabeth, but you can call me whatever suits you. I've been writing as a passion for about five years now, refining my work and how I create it in the process (part of this comes from being a major perfectionist). I love to write poetry more than anything, but I'm also big on short stories and have started a novel many a time, hoping to finish it but never getting the chance. My favorite books are the Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. My favorite music? I jump around a lot, but right now I love They Might Be Giants, Crowded House, and Yael Naim. So thrilled about Figgy Idol this year! I've tried to do it in the past but just haven't had the time.

Hello! I'm Tilda and I'm caught in what seems like an eternal cycle of bad luck, but with 2017 just starting I have high hopes. Super prone to catching colds, fascinated by the oddest things and love writing short stories that make no sense. I've always enjoyed writing, but on a more casual level. I quite prefer working with my hands - leathercrafting, paining, sculpting and all of that. I write on and off and read quite rarely, tending to be too picky to stick through it. My favorite music go from this and that, but I've been caught up in Arne Åsmund (the most adorable songs with less adorable lyrics!) and Nomy lately, but it hops around and tends to go hand in hand with my writing moods. I was here for Season One and now I'm here as a judge again, thankfully! I love this competition! Super excited to see what everyone comes up with this season! :D

Hi guys!! I'm SStwins, and I was the first- runner up last season of Figgy Idol!! It was such a great season, I really learned a ton, and I'm excited to be competing again!!

I made it a New Years resolution two years ago to write a story every day, and I've been doing that for two years now! I'm pretty good by now at writing short stories (200 words, anyone?) but I've always struggled with writing things that are longer! Figgy Idol is a great place to work on writing longer pieces, and I'm really grateful for the push of encouragement that it gives me!

In other facts about me, I'm a senior in high school right now! I write short plays a lot, and I've even gotten the chance to direct some of them, which has been super amazing!! If you ever get the chance to direct something you've written, I really recommend it, it's a great experience! I love theater in general and I've also been working on improving my artistic skills (a slow and steady process). My top favorite book series is The Hunger Games, closely followed by Chaos Walking (a tragically underrated masterpiece. p l e a s e read it if you see it, the first book is called The Knife of Never Letting Go and it's by Patrick Ness!!!).

If anyone ever needs anything, please hit me up!! You can post on my page anytime, and I'd be super excited to talk to anyone!!

Hi I'm Grant! I wrote a lot about my writing life in my judge bio, but needless to say, I kind of like it a lot. I also hate it a lot. It's the nature of the beast. My most recent writings have been freelance NFL pieces for a sports website called Holyfield. If you're into sports or alternate universes at all, you can check those out here. (Shameless off-figment self plugs are encouraged by me since I've now set a precedent for them.)

ANYWAY. Random things about me: I'm 25 and live in Las Vegas, NV. I've been married to my wonderful wife for nearly 3 years now and have an unhealthy obsession with the following: theater, music, football, US History, and video games. I tend to want to eat up a lot of art and knowledge, so I probably have a strong opinion about most things. My dream job, when I'm not writing, is to be a theater director. I'm currently working towards becoming a high school English and Theater teacher with a long term goal of potentially teaching theater on the college level.

Favorite books include: Frankenstein, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Of Mice and Men, and One More Thing: Stories and Other Stories. I'm currently reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, American Gods, and Slaughterhouse-Five

My name is Hazel Gatoya, and it is good to be back with all you great people!

I mostly attempt to write novels, but I have a finishing problem. I'm hoping to finish at least one big project this year, but until then, I'm always looking for ways to improve my writing. I'm also a huge anime and video game nerd (Fire Emblem has arrested my life) and a professional procrastinator. I am now a senior in high school and am terrified of what lies at the end of the road. I'm also fond of all kinds of music and play viola, piano, and ocarina.

Favorite book at the moment is Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson. Beautiful writing, beautiful characters, and intense plot. I have many other favorites as well, but we would be here all year...

@Grant !! Is the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time a book ? I'm going to be seeing it as a  musical sometime this spring, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it! I didn't realize that the musical was a book adaptation!!

  • Img_20161123_185530 Icon-admin Grant Evan Nordine

@SStwins is it a musical?? I thought it was just a play adaptation.

The book is incredible. I haven't been this blown away by a novel in a very long time. Amazing narrator, insanely smart, great great human characters and drama with just the right amount of comedy. I highly recommend this book to any reader or writer who wants to get better at characterization, but it's also just incredibly entertaining.
