Figgy Idol

Like American Idol, only our contestants write. We are a multi-round, short story writing competition held annually-ish here on Figment. Anyone with any kind of experience is free to sign-up.

During the first two seasons of Figgy Idol, we had a sort of side project going that we dubbed “Write-Along.” It was a discussion I would post that allowed those who were not currently competing to submit stories that they wrote that were inspired by the current prompt. It didn’t go over so well, so I ended it.

Flash-forward to season four. I have been approached by a couple of people this season who are not currently competing, inquiring if they could submit the stories they wrote. I would never say no to this. One of those lovely people pointed out that I do not have a designated place to share these stories, and they are absolutely right. Hence, my revival of the Write-Along.

If you are not currently competing (either you missed a deadline, were eliminated, joined us too late, et cetera) but would still like to write a story for one of the prompts, please do! Current judges are also invited to participate. Even current contestants could write a separate entry just for fun and share it here if they want. Post your links in this discussion, let me know which round’s prompt inspired it, and I’ll add it to the list below. Depending on how much attention this gets, I could even revive a few prompts from previous seasons… y’know, for nostalgia’s sake. But, for now, let’s see how this goes.

Remember: be sure to tell me which round your story was inspired by so I can sort it into the appropriate list.

ROUND ONE - It’s About To Be Legendary

ROUND TWO - Nothing But Silence

ROUND THREE - It's All Mundane To Me

ROUND FOUR - Feel This In Your Heart
(If anyone decides to Write Along for this round, you can assign your own emotion. Or write a story about each emotion. Whatever floats your boat. One emotion per story, though.)

Clearly, no one else is doing this. However, I finally finished my story enough to let others read it. My computer failed me and I'm in the middle of selling a house so writing comes in small patches.

Torin Longpaw was going to be my piece for round 1.

Good luck to everyone and I hope you all learn from this experience.

Don't count anyone out of the running yet, Zavier :D
Sorry it's taken so long but I started on some new medication and... well, let's just say the side-effects haven't been kind to me. Still, I got it finished at last!

Here's my story for Round 2: Her Death on Me

Glad to see participation! Thanks, both of you! At some point, I do intend to read both of your stories. However, it may not be until this next judging period is over. Looking forward to it. =]

Here's my write-along entry for the current round (I think we're on round five now?):

It's based on Romeo and Juliet and is about a rivalry between a family that runs a shop for hedge witches and a family that runs a shop for kitchen witches on the same street and that were established at the very same time (in 1597). Hope you like it!!
