Welcome to the teenquake contest!

First things first: This contest is moving fast San Figs – you only have until 7pm EST on September 18th to enter, so don’t delay!

Here’s the deal: teenquake is helping us run one contest with four different categories—fiction, fantasy, poetry, and mystery. Entrants can submit writing for one, two, three, or all of the categories. There will be twenty finalists in total (5 for each category), and first, second, and third place winners will be chosen for each category by our fabulous author guest judges, and those authors will present the winners with awards and prizes at the Teenquake Awards Ceremony on October 14 in San Francisco.

Our judges are:

STRAIGHT FICTION: Dana Reinhardt, author of The Things A Brother Knows and The Summer I Learned to Fly.

FANTASY: Malinda Lo, author of Ash and Huntress.

POETRY: Jandy Nelson, author of The Sky is Everywhere.

MYSTERY: Charlie Price, author of The Interrogation of Gabriel James

From September 19 – September 22, you will vote to decide the finalists. Heart your favorite entries; the five most hearted entries from each category will become the finalists for that category, and the finalists will go on to the judges. If you aren’t really from San Francisco, you won’t become a finalist!

So how do you enter?

  1. Read the Official Contest Rules here.
  2. Visit the discussion board to see the sticky thread with four prompts (one for each category.) Like more than one prompt? Go ahead and submit writing for more than one category!
  3. Click “Create Something New” on the “My Writing” tab on Figment. Write a piece of original fiction, no longer than 1000 words, for each category you’d like to enter. Tag your contest entry either “Fiction,” “Fantasy,” “Poetry,” or “Mystery,” depending on the category you intend the piece for. Click “Publish Now.”
  4. Add your writing to our group. To do this, go to the “Member Books” tab and choose the correct book under the “Share My Books” drop down menu.
  5. Read other entries and heart your favorites!
