I read that one! I think you'll really like it. I can't tell which is better though, that or Fangirl. And she has a new one out (Landline) that I really want to read once my library gets it, plus I think one more that I haven't read yet.

Haha, awesome! So I guess it all worked out in the end. :) Have you read any of her other books too?

Hi Lauren! I read Fangirl a while back and was really excited to see a review of it in Vintage Ink - it holds so many truths about writing, so it's perfect for a site like this (plus it's such a fantastic book that everyone deserves to read it). I also thought you did a great job with the review. If I'd never read it before, I would definitely want to after reading your assessment of it!

The only thing was, you said that you sort of skimmed over Cath's fanfic writing. When I saw that I just HAD to contact you to tell you: /read them/! Read the whole book again if you have to, and you might find that you were missing tons of interesting parallels (here's the most obvious one: "There was a boy in her room." and "There was a boy in Simon's room."). Rainbow Rowell is a very detailed writer, and almost never does things unintentionally. If you go through the fanfic/Simon Snow excerpt at the beginning of each chapter asking yourself, "how might this relate to or mirror what's going on in the chapter?" you might find out you were missing out on half the wonders of this book. :)

Happy writing & reading!
